ChatGPT now pulls live Yelp reviews, ratings, and photos into local answers — a thin Yelp profile is now a gap in the answer, not just a directory entry

2026-07-23Credibility: High 中文版 →

Yelp has been licensing its reviews, ratings, and photos to other platforms for years. Yahoo+ and Apple Maps already run on the same data. On July 23, 2026, ChatGPT joined the list. OpenAI and Yelp confirmed a data partnership, first reported by Axios and confirmed on the record by Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, giving ChatGPT real-time access to Yelp's business listings, reviews, ratings, and photos for local search queries. Alongside the data feed, Yelp's "Request a Quote" feature now runs inside ChatGPT: for a local-service search, a user can contact a provider without leaving the chat, or ever reaching that provider's website. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is non-exclusive.

Fact bullets:

  • July 23, 2026: OpenAI–Yelp data partnership confirmed on the record by Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, first reported by Axios.
  • ChatGPT gains real-time access to Yelp reviews, ratings, photos, and business-listing data to answer local search queries.
  • Yelp's "Request a Quote" feature is now embedded in ChatGPT for local-service searches, letting users contact a provider directly inside the chat.
  • The deal is non-exclusive: Yelp keeps licensing the same data to Yahoo+ and Apple Maps; financial terms undisclosed.

Credibility: High. Three independent accounts line up. Axios broke it, Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman confirmed it on the record, and Search Engine Land's trade coverage is the third. The artifact also checks itself: Yelp branding and links appearing inside ChatGPT is something you can reproduce on your own screen. One bias worth flagging: trade press covering AI-search partnerships tends to frame every new data deal as strategically significant. The load-bearing facts here, a CEO on the record and a non-exclusive license, hold up regardless of that framing.

OPERATOR TAKE

If you run AI visibility for a local-service or storefront client, the definition of a first-party listing you maintain just widened. A Yelp profile's photos, categories, hours, and review responses are now a direct input into ChatGPT's local answers, not only a Google Business Profile concern. The uncomfortable version: a client with a thin or outdated Yelp page will get a thin ChatGPT answer to match, and a competitor with a fuller profile can take both the citation and the "Request a Quote" lead. That lead now lands before your client's website gets the visit.

One caveat keeps this from turning into busywork: a partnership announcement and a live, market-by-market rollout are not the same thing. Before anyone spends a day on profile cleanup, confirm with a first-party prompt test, or an AI-visibility tracker, whether ChatGPT is actually surfacing Yelp data for that client's category and city yet.

This week:

  • Audit each local-service client's Yelp Business Profile (categories, hours, service area, photo count, review responses), since that data can now surface directly inside ChatGPT's answers.
  • Run a first-party ChatGPT prompt test ("[service] near [city]") for each client's category to see whether Yelp-sourced citations are showing up yet; the rollout may not be uniform across markets.
  • For any client whose service qualifies for "Request a Quote," tell them leads can now arrive through ChatGPT directly, and record whether their intake process can catch that channel.
