Quick answer

Quora SEO is the work of getting your Quora answers read by buyers and quoted by AI assistants. In our tracking of 19 Singapore agency buying questions, quora.com was cited in 71 of 1,588 answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. In Semrush's study of Google AI Mode, the Quora answers that got cited mostly held Quora's Most Relevant label and sat in active threads, and Quora's own team advises leading with a direct answer.

  • Quora shows up in Singapore buying answers: 34 of 544 Google AI Overview answers, 26 of 570 ChatGPT answers and 11 of 474 Google AI Mode answers cited quora.com between 5 September and 4 October 2026. Reddit was cited in 76.
  • Google AI Mode leans on Quora's own ranking: Semrush found 89.7% of the Quora answers AI Mode cited carried Quora's Most Relevant label.
  • AI rewrites what it takes: Semrush measured an average overlap of 0.435 between an AI Mode answer and the closest Quora reply, so concrete facts carry through and slogans disappear.
  • The build is a seven step routine covering profiles, question selection, answer format, disclosure, updates, engagement and measurement. The playbook is the longest section below.

What is Quora SEO, and why does it now include AI citations?

Your buyers now ask ChatGPT and Google which agency, tool or clinic to shortlist, and the answer they get often draws on a Quora thread you have never read. If your brand is missing from that thread, or appears only in an old complaint, the assistant repeats what it found. Finding those threads takes about an hour, and most of the fix is writing better answers.

Short answer. Quora SEO is the practice of answering Quora questions so that your answers rank in Google, earn Quora's own Most Relevant label, and get picked up when AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode build an answer. The first two goals are old. The third is why the channel matters again.

Each Quora page is a question written in the words people search with, which is why the platform has long been an SEO channel. What changed is the reader. Semrush's June 2025 AI search study named Quora the most cited website in Google AI Overviews, with Reddit second. Its September 2025 follow up found a Quora link in 7.25% of Google AI Mode responses, about one answer in every 14, across 278,279 prompts.

A Quora answer therefore has two audiences: the person who opens the thread, and the model that rewrites the thread for someone who never will. Quora's own five step plan for AI search visibility makes the same case for advertisers and stays general. This guide adds measured citation counts for Singapore buying questions and a playbook written for a Singapore brand.

How much do AI assistants actually cite Quora?

Often enough to matter in a Singapore buying decision, and very unevenly across engines. We tracked 19 questions a Singapore company asks when it is choosing an agency, through ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, from 5 September to 4 October 2026, using WorkDuo. Of the 1,588 answers those engines gave, 71 cited at least one quora.com page.

Source: Novastacks tracking in WorkDuo, 19 Singapore agency buying questions, 5 September to 4 October 2026. Shares are derived by dividing answers that cite quora.com by answers tracked. Reddit was cited in 76 of the same 1,588 answers.

Google AI Overviews cites Quora most often here, which fits Semrush's finding that Quora is the most cited website in AI Overviews. Google AI Mode cited Quora in 2.3% of our answers against the 7.25% Semrush measured across 278,279 general prompts. The two sets differ in date as well as scope, but the gap suggests citation share depends heavily on the question set: a narrow, commercial, local set behaves differently from a broad mixed one.

Quora and Reddit are close in this data, 71 answers against 76. A Singapore brand that plans community presence on Reddit and ignores Quora leaves a channel of almost the same size unworked.

Treat every figure here as a reading on a date for one question set. Run your own buyer questions before you budget, because the share moves with the topic and with each engine's retrieval settings.

Why does AI cite one Quora answer and not another?

The engines lean on Quora's own quality signals and then rewrite what they take. Semrush's analysis of 26,000 Quora URLs cited in Google AI Mode, published 29 September 2025, is the best public evidence, and four of its findings decide how you should write.

Quora's Most Relevant label

About 89.7% of the answers AI Mode cited also carried Quora's Most Relevant label, which Quora's own algorithm assigns. Earn the label and your answer joins the pool AI Mode draws from. Jenna Owens, a Customer Success Manager at Quora, told Semrush that a direct answer in the first one to three sentences helps, because "opening and closing portions typically carry a greater weight."

Active threads

Cited answers sat in threads averaging 37 answers. The cited answers themselves averaged 15 upvotes and one comment, and were "at least 535 words long." A thoughtful answer on a busy question will usually beat a polished answer on a question nobody visits.

Topic match over keyword match

The average similarity between the user's prompt and the Quora question title was 0.1, so AI Mode pulled threads on the same topic even when the wording barely matched. Write for the problem behind the question and cover the adjacent angles: alternatives, costs, pitfalls.

Specifics that survive rewriting

AI Mode answers overlapped the closest Quora reply by 0.435 on average, under half. Google blends several replies into new text, so adjectives fall away and concrete facts stay: a price band, a timeline, a threshold, a named regulation. "Ask any agency to report AI citations engine by engine" gives a model something to carry. "They are very professional" gives it nothing.

How do you check which Quora answers AI already cites about you?

Ask the engines the questions your buyers ask and record every quora.com page that comes back. A first pass takes about an hour, and it is the same routine behind the tracking above.

  1. Write 15 to 25 buyer questions in the words a Singapore buyer uses. Category questions with intent: "best [category] in Singapore", "[category] cost in Singapore", "[option A] or [option B] for a 20 person team". Add the local qualifiers your buyers would add, such as GST, CPF, PDPA or a PSG grant.
  2. Run each question in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, in a fresh session. In our data the three engines cited Quora at rates between 2.3% and 6.3% of answers, so a single engine tells you little.
  3. Record every quora.com URL cited. Question pages sit on quora.com itself, while Spaces, Quora's communities, publish on their own subdomains of quora.com, so filter on the whole domain including subdomains.
  4. Classify each mention of your brand as accurate, outdated or wrong, then rerun the set monthly. The comparison between runs tells you whether your answers are moving anything.

What to record for each cited thread. Prompt, engine, test date, Quora URL, the answer the engine used, its author and credential, its upvotes, whether it carries the Most Relevant label, and accuracy about your brand. Every thread on that list is already in an engine's pool, so answer those first.

By hand this gets heavy past 25 questions. Our free AI visibility tracker tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overview cite your brand across more than 50 real prompts, with the report delivered in 48 hours.

How is Quora SEO different from Reddit SEO and traditional SEO?

Quora and Reddit both hand AI engines human answers, and they reward different behaviour. Our guide to Reddit SEO covers the subreddit side in depth. The table sets the three disciplines side by side.

The practical difference is identity. On Reddit a brand earns trust by sounding like a peer. On Quora the credential is part of the answer, so a named specialist with a clear title is the asset. That makes Quora the easier of the two for a B2B brand whose experts are willing to write under their own names.

How do you build a Quora presence that AI assistants cite?

Seven steps, in order. The first four set you up; the last three keep the presence earning citations.

1. Set up profiles and credentials before the first answer

Quora offers two kinds of presence, and its advertiser guide splits them by voice: individual profiles for personal experience written as "I", and Business Profiles for company expertise and product questions written as "we". For AI citation the individual profile usually does more work, because the credential travels with every answer. Owens told Semrush that demonstrating credibility "builds trust and differentiates you from other answers."

For a Singapore team, pick two or three people whose names a buyer in your category would take seriously. Write each a credential that states role, company and the specific thing they know, for example "Head of Paid Media at [agency], runs Google Ads for Singapore F&B brands". Fill in employment and location under credentials and highlights so the profile reads as local, and match the credential shown on each answer to the question. Keep a Business Profile for product FAQs.

2. Find the questions Singapore buyers ask, including in Spaces

Quora's guide suggests identifying the top 50 questions in your industry. Start with the threads your audit surfaced: every Quora page an engine already cites is a question in the pool, so answer those first. Then search Quora for your category plus "Singapore", and for the local terms that change an answer here: GST registration, CPF contributions, PDPA consent, PSG grants, work passes. Favour questions with many answers and recent activity, given the 37 answer average Semrush found for cited threads.

Spaces are Quora's communities, each run by its own admins on its own subdomain. Search Spaces for Singapore and for your category, join the ones with posts from the past month, and contribute there. A Space gives you a smaller audience that reads closely, and its posts are public pages in their own right.

If the question your buyers ask does not exist yet, ask it. Semrush notes you can post with Quora's limited setting so the question is not tied to your profile. Answer it openly under your own name, with the disclosure in step four.

3. Write the answer AI can lift: a direct answer first, then first person specifics

Quora's team, in its interviews with Semrush and in its own advertiser guide, gives a format that matches what AI Mode cites. Answer the question in the first one to three sentences, expand in two or three short sections, and bold the key points so each idea can be lifted on its own. Then add what only you can say: your own numbers, the regulation you dealt with, the mistake you made and what it cost.

Before (ignored by readers and engines)

"Great question. At [Agency] we offer full service digital marketing tailored to your needs. Feel free to contact us for a free consultation."

After (the shape that gets quoted)

"Ask every agency on your shortlist to report AI citations engine by engine. In our tracking of 19 Singapore agency buying questions in September and October 2026, Google AI Overviews cited Quora in 34 of 544 answers and Google AI Mode in 11 of 474, so one blended number hides most of what is happening. Disclosure: I lead AEO at Novastacks, a Singapore agency."

The second answer gives the engine a direct recommendation, a sourced number, a reason and a disclosed author, all details that hold up when the engine rewrites the thread. Aim for the length Semrush saw in cited answers, at least 535 words, with a first paragraph that stands alone.

4. Disclose your affiliation in every answer that touches your business

Quora's help centre carries a policy on disclosing affiliations in answers. It asks users to state any relevant affiliation in the answer itself or in the credential shown with it, and treats as relevant anything a reasonable observer would think important for interpreting the answer, including financial interests. Quora's team puts the commercial limit at 80% genuinely useful and at most 20% a soft brand mention, placed at the end.

Singapore adds its own layer. The Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore issued its Interactive Marketing Communication and Social Media Guidelines on 29 August 2016 as an appendix to the Singapore Code of Advertising Practice, with guidance notes on which arrangements need disclosure. If you pay staff, an agency or customers to answer on your behalf, read those notes before anyone posts. Financial services and healthcare brands carry sector advertising rules on top, so have compliance approve standard disclosures and claim boundaries once. Keep links to one or two that add proof, the limit Semrush's Quora FAQ suggests.

5. Update old answers when the facts change

Quora's guide tells brands to audit existing answers so they reflect current thinking. Put a quarterly review in the calendar and check prices, product names, regulations and any figure with a date. Singapore facts date quickly: grant amounts, CPF ceilings, and the GST rate, which has been 9% since 1 January 2024. When you change a fact, add a short "Updated October 2026" line at the top.

For wrong answers written by others, leave a polite comment that corrects the facts and backs them with data or sources, which is what Semrush's FAQ recommends. If the thread matters to your buyers, also answer the question yourself with the correct facts.

6. Earn upvotes and replies without manipulation

Engagement is part of what gets a thread cited, and the legitimate routes are slow. Answer rising questions early. Reply to every comment on your answers, which keeps the discussion active. End with a question when you want other practitioners to add to the thread, as Semrush suggests. Share an answer with a newsletter audience or LinkedIn followers who would find it useful.

Coordinated upvoting by colleagues, swapping votes with other brands and running extra accounts are manipulation. Leave them out. Owens put the platform's preference plainly: "Quora favors answers that feel genuinely helpful over ones that sound like ads." Quora also suggests turning strong answers into Promoted Answers. That buys readers, and we have seen no evidence that paid reach changes which answers an AI engine cites.

7. Measure what AI does with your answers

Measure in three layers. On Quora, use the Content & Stats tool Quora's guide points to for views and upvotes per answer, and check whether your answers hold the Most Relevant label on the threads you target. In AI search, rerun your buyer questions monthly and log citations by engine. Downstream, watch branded search in Google Search Console and direct visits in GA4.

Report citations engine by engine. In our data the same question set gave Quora 6.3% of AI Overview answers and 2.3% of AI Mode answers, so a single blended figure would hide which engine your work is moving. Quora referral sessions in GA4 will look small, because assistants paraphrase the thread.

The business case: how Quora presence becomes AI mentions and buyer discovery

The chain runs like this. A buyer asks an assistant for a shortlist. The assistant retrieves sources, and for many buying questions a Quora thread is among them. If your expert's answer holds the Most Relevant label and carries specifics, it shapes the paraphrase, and your brand is named in the shortlist. The buyer then searches your name and arrives already informed.

Our study on why being quoted is not the same as being known shows why third party pages carry so much weight. Across 6,601 answers, the most cited company in the study kept only 5.6% of its mentions when its own website was removed from the sources. A competitor cited roughly 17 times less often kept 74.4%, and 141 pages across 49 other websites named it. Answers your experts write on Quora are among the cheapest third party pages you can add to that count.

Keep the expectation honest. In our Singapore set Quora appeared in 4.5% of answers, so it will not carry a brand alone. It earns its place as one of the few third party sources you can write yourself, under real names. Running that programme alongside on site work is what our AEO agency team does for Singapore clients.

What are the risks, and when is Quora the wrong channel?

The main risk is the shortcut. Answers drafted by an AI tool and posted unedited add nothing an engine could not write itself, and readers notice. James Brockbank, Managing Director at Digitaloft, told Semrush that "most of us by now can spot a ChatGPT response a mile away." Repurposing your own blog posts or FAQs is fine, as Quora's team recommends, as long as an expert rewrites them into an answer to the specific question.

The other risks are predictable. A pushy or undisclosed answer can be removed, and a public correction by another user does more damage than silence. Negative threads about your brand cannot be deleted, only answered. Regulated claims about health outcomes or returns can create compliance exposure in Singapore. Expert time is the real cost: a programme that relies on one enthusiastic person usually stops when that person gets busy.

Skip Quora, or keep it small, if three or more of these are true. Your audit finds no Quora threads cited for your buying questions, and searching Quora finds few on your category. Nobody on your team will write under their own name. Every answer needs a compliance review that takes weeks. Your buyers decide in person with little research beforehand. You need attributable leads within a quarter.

Frequently asked questions

How can a strong Quora presence help our brand get discovered in AI answers in Singapore?

By putting your expertise inside the threads AI assistants already read. In Novastacks tracking of 19 Singapore agency buying questions from 5 September to 4 October 2026, quora.com was cited in 71 of 1,588 answers: 34 of 544 Google AI Overview answers, 26 of 570 ChatGPT answers and 11 of 474 Google AI Mode answers. An answer from a named expert that leads with a direct answer and carries Singapore specifics is the kind those engines pick and paraphrase, which is how your brand gets named during shortlisting.

Does Google AI Mode really cite Quora?

Yes. Semrush found a Quora link in 7.25% of Google AI Mode responses across 278,279 prompts, about one answer in 14, which made Quora the fourth most cited domain behind LinkedIn, Reddit and Google. An earlier Semrush study named Quora the most cited website in Google AI Overviews. In our Singapore agency question set AI Mode cited Quora less often, in 11 of 474 answers, so test your own questions before you plan around any average.

What makes a Quora answer more likely to be cited by AI?

Quora's own quality signals and concrete specifics. Semrush found 89.7% of the Quora answers cited by Google AI Mode carried Quora's Most Relevant label, and cited answers sat in threads averaging 37 answers, averaged 15 upvotes and were at least 535 words long. Quora's team recommends a direct answer in the first one to three sentences and a clear credential. Because AI Mode answers overlapped the closest Quora reply by only 0.435 on average, specific facts survive the rewrite better than general claims.

Should we answer on Quora as a company or as individuals?

Mostly as individuals, with a company profile for product questions. Quora's own guide recommends individual profiles for personal experience and thought leadership written as I, and Business Profiles for company expertise and product FAQs written as we. For AI citation, named experts with a specific credential usually do more, because the credential appears beside every answer and credibility is part of what Quora's ranking rewards.

Do we need to disclose that we work for the company we mention on Quora?

Yes. Quora's help centre has a policy on disclosing affiliations in answers, which asks you to state any relevant affiliation in the answer or in the credential shown with it. In Singapore, the Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore's Interactive Marketing Communication and Social Media Guidelines, issued on 29 August 2016, also cover disclosure of commercial relationships in social media marketing. Disclose every time your answer touches your business.

How long does it take for Quora answers to show up in AI answers?

No published study we found measures that delay for Quora specifically. Measure it yourself: log the date each answer goes live, rerun your buyer questions monthly in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, and record the first month an engine cites the thread. Answers on threads that engines already cite have the shortest path, which is why the audit comes before the writing.
