AI Can Describe EPHIX in Detail. In the Buying Questions, It Names Someone Else.
EPHIX sells natural, made-in-America hair growth and grooming products for men, stocked in 443+ salons. In US search the brand appears for 15 terms; its two closest rivals appear for 4,670 and 4,276 — and EPHIX shares none of them with either.
That is not a losing keyword fight; it is absence from the field. We put six questions to ChatGPT and the same six to Google's AI answers. On the three that name no brand, every reply came back with retailers, publishers or rival brands. EPHIX surfaced only where the question already carried its name.
Google's AI answers name your two rivals 667 and 396 times. EPHIX: zero. Yet 2,345 people follow the brand on TikTok, and men already recommend it to each other, unpaid, in public hair-loss forums. The demand and the advocacy exist; the answer machines have nothing of yours to quote.

AI Only Names EPHIX When the Question Already Does
What ChatGPT and Google's AI answers actually say about the brand and its category
ChatGPT Query Results
| Prompt Type | Query | Mentioned? | Who Was Cited |
|---|---|---|---|
| Branded | What is EPHIX (ephixpro.com) and what hair growth products do they make for men? | Yes | 8 sources cited, all ephixpro.com pages. Description accurate: men-focused, plant-based, made in USA. No third-party source used. |
| Competitor-Branded | What is Bask & Lather Co and what hair growth products do they sell? | No | 8 sources, all baskandlatherco.com. EPHIX was not offered as an alternative. Diagnostic only — excluded from all scoring. |
| Category | What are the best natural hair growth oils for men with thinning hair? | No | Cited aad.org and pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. The answer led with rosemary oil and named no product brand from this category. |
| Category | What is the best natural beard oil for men, and is argan oil good for beards? | No | Cited gq.com, menshealth.com, healthline.com, nbcnews.com. Recommended Honest Amish, BEVEL, Woodlands and New Day Organics. |
| Comparison | EPHIX vs Bask & Lather vs Viking Revolution: which brand has the better men's hair growth and beard care products? | Yes | EPHIX cited twice (hair growth oil, beard oil) but ranked 3rd of 3. Bask & Lather placed 1st, described as the strongest lineup. |
| Long-Tail | Does thyme oil actually work for hair growth, and which hair growth oil should I buy for thinning hair? | No | Cited pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov only. EPHIX sells a thyme-oil hair growth product and currently sits at position 97 for this exact term. |
Web search ran on all six prompts, so the model was reading the live web rather than memory — which means the absence is a supply problem, not a training-data lag. EPHIX was mentioned in 2 of 5 scored prompts; the competitor-branded prompt is diagnostic only and is excluded from that denominator. Both mentions came from prompts that already contained the word EPHIX. On the three prompts a real buyer would type, the model reached for medical journals, magazines and rival brands instead. Six prompts is a signal, not a census — but the pattern is consistent across both platforms.

An AI answer appeared on all six queries, but on the two open category questions it appeared on only one of two live fetches — triggering is unstable at this level, so read it as a signal rather than a constant. Four of the six returned retrievable sources, and across those four the AI handed out 27 citations. EPHIX received 2 — both on queries that named the brand. Separately, across the recorded body of Google AI answers in this market, ephixpro.com carries 0 mentions against 667 for Bask & Lather Co and 396 for Viking Revolution. That is a distribution gap, not an access gap: every EPHIX page we requested returned complete, readable HTML.
Citation Surface Analysis
| Platform | Presence | Strength | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Yes | 2,345 followers | 41 videos, 6,510 likes, live TikTok Shop, 4.6/5 from 50 votes on the Luxe Serum. Cited 0 times across the 12 AI responses. |
| YouTube | No | 0 owned videos | 125 indexed brand URLs, all uploaded by other creators. The @Ephix channel carries no content. Most-cited third-party domain in our test set (3 of 12) and the category leader at 5,184 AI answer mentions. |
| Yes | 1,040 indexed URLs | @ephix_usa, mostly creator reels. Cited once, in the comparison AI answer. | |
| Yes | 269 indexed URLs | Two verified unpaid recommendations in r/Hairloss. Reddit carries 1,920 AI answer mentions in this category. | |
| Amazon | Yes | 2 listings | 39 indexed URLs across 2 product listings. Amazon outranks ephixpro.com at #1 on the brand's own name. 2,496 AI answer mentions in this category. |
| Healthline | No | 0 results | Cited twice across the 12 AI responses and carries 1,536 AI answer mentions in this category. A site search for EPHIX returns nothing. |
| Men's Health | No | 0 results | Ranks #6 for 'hair growth products for men' and was quoted in the beard-oil answer. A site search for EPHIX returns nothing. |
| Trustpilot | No | No profile | The only result is an unrelated business. The single structured rating anywhere is the 4.6/5 from 50 TikTok Shop votes. |
The pattern is a mismatch, not a shortage. EPHIX's real footprint sits on TikTok and Instagram — surfaces the AI answers in this test barely touched. The surfaces AI does reach for in this category (YouTube, Amazon, Reddit, Healthline, Men's Health) are where EPHIX is either absent or represented only by other people's uploads. The most-cited domain of all, YouTube, is the one where the brand has 125 indexed URLs and not a single video of its own. Reddit is the exception worth naming: men are already recommending EPHIX there without being paid to, on a domain AI quotes 1,920 times in this category.

0.94-Second Load, 92/100 Search Health — and No Headline Tag on the Homepage
How the site is built, and where the build stops short
Rendering and Crawl Access: A Genuinely Clean Foundation
Bright SpotStart with the good news, because it changes the diagnosis. Every one of the five EPHIX pages we crawled returned complete server-rendered HTML on the first request — no JavaScript shell, no empty container, no challenge page. Machines read what humans read. The homepage is fast on the metrics that matter: FCP 0.63s, LCP 0.94s and CLS 0.0002, all comfortably inside Google's thresholds, on a performance score of 89 and a search-health score of 92 out of 100. Sitemaps for products, pages, collections and the blog are all present.
This matters because it removes the most common explanation for zero AI citations. Nothing is blocking the machines. They are arriving, reading the site cleanly, and finding too little worth quoting.
Two qualifiers. Speed Index measures 4.87s and time-to-interactive 4.34s — the page paints its first content quickly but keeps loading visual weight for several seconds after, which is what 60 homepage images cost when they are not optimised. And the homepage fails the image alt-text check outright; that single failure is the only thing holding the search-health score at 92 instead of 100, where Bask & Lather sits. Alt text is how an image tells a machine what it shows. Without it, 60 product images describe nothing — no image search, no visual results, no picture for an AI answer to attach to the product.

Content Hierarchy and Page Signals
HighThe homepage carries zero headline tags. Nine subheadings exist and several are strong sales copy — "In 443+ Salons Nationwide", "Trusted by 2153+ Salon Hair Professionals", "Clean Ingredients, Proven Effectiveness!" — but with no top-level heading above them, a machine reading the page has no single declared statement of what this site is. Bask & Lather declares one. Viking Revolution has the same gap, so this is a category-wide weakness rather than a unique failing — which makes it a cheap place to get ahead.
Below the homepage the pattern repeats in a specific way: on three of five page types the subheadings are interface labels, not topics. The blog post's only subheading is "Item added to your cart". The category page's are "Filter:", "Sort by:" and "6 products". The FAQ page's is the cart notice. Bask & Lather's blog post carries 11 subheadings and its FAQ page carries nine. Two page types also ship without a description line at all.
The exception proves the point. The Hair Growth Oil product page carries eight subheadings including "How to use?", "Ingredients" and "FAQs", plus 19 third-level headings. That is exactly the shape an AI answer lifts from. One page on this site is built the right way; the template for the rest already exists in-house.
Internal linking is the quiet third issue: 26 to 45 links per page against Bask & Lather's 79 to 93. Fewer paths between pages means less signal about which pages matter.

Structured Data Coverage
HighEPHIX runs seven markup types across the five pages we crawled — organisation, site, site-search, product, offer, brand and article — which is real breadth and more product-level markup than either rival carries on its homepage. The gaps are specific and they sit exactly where AI answer extraction happens.
First: navigation-trail markup appears on zero of five EPHIX pages. Bask & Lather carries it on all five. Viking Revolution carries it on all four. This is the code that tells a machine where a page sits in the site's structure, and EPHIX is the only one of the three without it anywhere.
Second: the category page carries organisation markup and nothing else — no declaration of what the collection contains or which products are in it. With only two category pages on the whole site, each one is carrying disproportionate weight and neither is described to a machine.
Third, and this one cuts both ways: answer-format markup appears on none of the 14 pages we crawled across all three domains. Nobody in this comparison has claimed it. The EPHIX FAQ page has the content type but not the code; the product page has genuine question-and-answer blocks that are equally unmarked.
| Markup type | EPHIX (5 pages) | Bask & Lather Co (5 pages) | Viking Revolution (4 pages) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Organization | 5 of 5 | 5 of 5 | 2 of 4 |

One Blog Post Against 124 and 64
Whether there is enough substance on the page for a machine to quote
Content Volume Gap
CriticalThe single most consequential number in this audit: EPHIX's blog library holds one post, last updated 6 August 2025 — more than twelve months before this assessment. Bask & Lather Co holds 124 posts and updated its library five days before we ran this. Viking Revolution holds 64.
That gap explains the citation result more directly than any technical finding. When someone asks an AI which oil works for thinning hair, the machine assembles an answer from passages it can find and attribute. Bask & Lather has 124 chances to be that passage. EPHIX has one, and it is a product round-up written a year ago.
The category layer is the second gap and it compounds the first: two collection pages against 70 and 50, and the one we crawled runs 463 words against Bask & Lather's 2,127. Category pages are where non-branded commercial demand lands. With two of them, there is almost nothing for that demand to land on.
On images, be careful about the wrong conclusion. Images are an asset — they drive image search, Discover and visual results, and 60 on the homepage is a legitimate merchandising choice for a beauty brand. The issue is that they need surrounding text structure to work: alt text, captions, and a heading that tells a machine what the section is about. Right now the homepage runs one image for every 12.6 words, and the alt-text check fails.
The bright spot stays bright: the product page holds 1,202 words against 1,294 and 1,053. Where EPHIX has built, it has built to standard. It has simply built five pages' worth.
| Page type | Metric | EPHIX | Bask & Lather Co | Viking Revolution |

Answer-Format Content: An Open First-Mover Position
Competitive IntelEPHIX runs a live FAQ page at /pages/faq. It holds 97 words and no topic headings. Bask & Lather's equivalent holds 1,139 words across nine subheadings — 11.7 times the depth. Viking Revolution's /pages/faq redirects to its shipping policy and /pages/faqs returns a 404, so it fields no equivalent at all.
Here is the opportunity. Across all 14 pages we crawled on all three domains, not one carries answer-format markup — the code that presents a question and its answer to a machine as a matched pair, which is the single most-lifted structure in AI answers. The category is wide open. Whoever claims it first becomes the default source for the question set, and the two rivals with 124 and 64 blog posts have not thought to.
EPHIX is also closer to claiming it than it looks. The Hair Growth Oil product page already carries an on-page FAQs section with real buyer questions, sitting under an unmarked heading. The raw material is written. It is on one URL, in the wrong format, doing none of the work it could.
| Signal | EPHIX | Bask & Lather Co | Viking Revolution |

Zero Shared Keywords With Either Rival — EPHIX Is Not Losing the Category, It Is Outside It
Where the brand sits against the demand its rivals are capturing
Zero Keyword Overlap: Absent From the Field, Not Losing Inside It
CriticalWe checked the keyword sets of all three domains against each other in the US top 100. EPHIX shares zero ranking keywords with Bask & Lather Co and zero with Viking Revolution.
That is an unusual result and it reframes the whole engagement. A brand losing a keyword fight sits behind its rivals on shared terms — you fix that by out-ranking them. EPHIX is not behind on shared terms because there are none. The 15 keywords it holds and the 4,670 and 4,276 its rivals hold are disjoint sets. The brand is not competing badly for category demand; it is not present in the pool where that demand is being served.
The shape of the 15 is telling too. One sits in positions 2–3 — the brand's own name, at 50 searches a month. None sit in position 1 and none in positions 4–10. Twelve of the fifteen sit past position 30, which is functionally invisible. Estimated organic visits run at 15 a month against 200,870 and 57,053.

Signal Test: Absent From All Three Commercial Category Queries
CriticalWe tested three live commercial queries — the terms a man types when he is ready to buy rather than ready to read. Three queries is a signal test, not a census, so read it as a directional diagnosis.
EPHIX appears nowhere in the top 20 for any of the three. A Google AI answer triggered on all three, and EPHIX was cited in none of them. Bask & Lather Co ranks #5 on two of the three and was quoted in the AI answer for the natural-oil query. Viking Revolution ranks #9 on one.
What ranks instead is worth studying, because it is the map of who to displace: a pharmaceutical brand (Rogaine), a marketplace (Amazon), a telehealth service (Hims), retail chains (CVS, Walmart, Target), and — most often — publishers, who occupy much of the top ten on all three: Men's Health, Fortune, GoodRx, Health.com and Byrdie among them. Those same publishers are the domains the AI answers quote. Ranking against them is one route; being quoted by them is the faster one, and EPHIX currently returns zero results on both Healthline and Men's Health.
| Commercial query tested | EPHIX position | AI answer appeared? | EPHIX in the AI answer? | Who ranked instead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| hair growth products for men | Outside top 20 | Yes | No | rogaine.com (#4), baskandlatherco.com (#5), menshealth.com (#6), amazon.com (#8) |
| natural hair growth oil for men | Outside top 20 | Yes | No | baskandlatherco.com (#5), amazon.com (#6), youtube.com (#8), vikingrevolution.com (#9) |

Branded Demand Is Leaking to Amazon and to Misspellings
HighOn the brand's own query, "ephix hair growth", ephixpro.com does rank — at #2, #5 and #10. But #1 belongs to Amazon, and positions 3, 6, 7, 8 and 11 belong to Instagram, Ubuy, eBay, Shop and TikTok Shop. A buyer searching for EPHIX by name is more likely to land on a marketplace listing than on the brand's own store, where the margin and the customer relationship live.
The second leak is stranger and larger. The two highest-volume terms EPHIX ranks for anywhere are misspellings of its own name: "aphix" at 1,600 searches a month, where the site sits at position 73, and "hair phix" at 720 a month, where it sits at position 64. Add "hair phix products" at 40 a month and position 32. That is roughly 2,360 monthly searches from people who are probably reaching for this brand, phonetically, and finding it two to seven pages deep.
For context, the correctly spelled brand term "ephix" draws 50 searches a month. The misspelling volume is 47 times larger than the correct spelling. That is what a brand looks like when it is being heard — in salons, on TikTok, in conversation — faster than it is being read.
| Position on "ephix hair growth" | Who holds it |
|---|---|
| #1 | amazon.com |
| #2 | ephixpro.com |
| #3 | instagram.com |
| #5 | ephixpro.com |
| #6 | ubuy.do |
| #7 | ebay.com |
| #8 | shop.app |
| #10 | ephixpro.com |
| #11 | shop.tiktok.com |
Bright Spot: The Buying Questions EPHIX Already Half-Owns
Bright SpotThree of EPHIX's fifteen ranked keywords are the exact questions the AI was answering when it named somebody else. "Thyme oil for hair growth" draws 110 searches a month and EPHIX ranks 97th on it with the Hair Growth Oil page — a product literally formulated around thyme oil. When we asked ChatGPT whether thyme oil works, it cited three medical journals and named no brand. When we asked Google, the AI answer cited 11 domains and recommended Mielle Organics and Pura D'or. The brand with the product was ranked 97th and quoted zero times.
The same holds for argan oil and beards: two variants at 110 searches each, EPHIX at positions 65 and 88 with the Scented Beard Oil page, while the AI answer quoted GQ, Men's Health, Healthline and NBC News. These are not aspirational targets. They are queries where the product exists, the page exists, and the ranking is already on the board — just far down it.
Two further assets are worth naming because rivals cannot copy them. First, unpaid advocacy: two verified recommendations for EPHIX hair growth oil in r/Hairloss, written by ordinary users, on a domain AI quotes 1,920 times in this category. Second, professional distribution: the site's own homepage claims 443+ salons and 2,153+ salon professionals. That is third-party expert endorsement at scale, currently living as a subheading on a page with no headline tag rather than as evidence a machine can cite.
| Query EPHIX already ranks for | Monthly US searches | EPHIX position | Ranking page | Who the AI answer named instead |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Roadmap: From 4.3 to 6.8 in Six Months
Three horizons, sequenced by what unblocks what
Site Readiness Score
LLM Visibility Score
Horizon 1: Infrastructure (0–30 days)
0–30 days+0.8 to +1.2 Site Readiness. Cheapest points on the board, and they unblock everything in Horizon 2.
Close the gaps named in Content Hierarchy and Page Signals (Section 04): the homepage headline tag, the two page types shipping without a description line, and the interface-label headings on the blog, category and FAQ pages.
Complete the Structured Data Coverage matrix (Section 04) across all five page types — starting with the navigation-trail markup that both rivals carry and EPHIX carries nowhere, and the category-page markup that currently declares nothing about what the collection holds.
Fix the image alt-text failure identified in Rendering and Crawl Access (Section 04). It is the single audit holding search health at 92 instead of 100, and it silences 60 homepage images.
Raise internal linking from 26–45 per page toward the 79–93 both rivals run, so the pages that matter are signalled as the pages that matter.
Horizon 2: Content Depth (30–90 days)
30–90 days+1.0 to +1.5 Site Readiness, with the first movement on AI citations. This is where the Content Volume Gap starts closing.
Attack the Content Volume Gap (Section 05) at its two widest points: the category layer (2 pages, 463 words, against 70 pages and 2,127 words) and the blog library (1 post, twelve months stale, against 124).
Take the first-mover position identified in Answer-Format Content (Section 05). No domain in this comparison carries answer-format markup on any of the 14 pages we crawled, and the raw question-and-answer material already exists on the product page.
Build against the queries in The Buying Questions EPHIX Already Half-Owns (Section 06), where product pages already rank at positions 65, 88 and 97 on the exact questions AI is fielding — thyme oil for hair growth, argan oil for beards.
Rebuild the product-page pattern across the range. The Hair Growth Oil page is already at standard; nine other products are not.
Horizon 3: Authority and Citation Surface (3–6 months)
3–6 months+2.0 to +2.5 LLM Visibility. The slowest horizon and the one competitors cannot copy.
Attack the citation surface mapped in Section 02. The five domains AI quotes most in this category are YouTube, Google, Amazon, Reddit and Healthline. EPHIX holds an owned position on none of them, and on YouTube — the single most-cited domain, at 5,184 mentions — it has 125 indexed URLs and not one video of its own.
Convert the assets named in The Buying Questions EPHIX Already Half-Owns (Section 06) into earned coverage: the 443-salon professional base and the unpaid r/Hairloss advocacy are exactly the evidence the publisher domains returning zero EPHIX results today are looking for.
Recapture the branded demand documented in Branded Demand Is Leaking to Amazon (Section 06), including the roughly 2,360 monthly searches currently arriving as phonetic misspellings and landing nowhere.
Establish a structured review surface. The only rating anywhere today is 4.6 out of 5 from 50 TikTok Shop votes, and there is no profile on the review platform AI reached for when describing the closest rival.
